The title of the world’s largest YMCA is held by the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The massive 330,000 sq. ft. facility is in the heart of a vibrant urban center and provides a wide variety of amenities like multiple gyms, ice rinks, and pools, a cardio center, 200m walking track, multipurpose rooms for class and community use, an art studio, a library, childcare and much more.
Designed by Gibbs Gage Architects, more than 3,800 square feet of Banker Wire’s SJD-7 woven wire mesh in stainless steel was used throughout the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. Used as railing infill and interior space dividers, SJD-7 offers up a larger percent open area to allow for minimally interrupted views while still providing separation and security. SJD-7’s linear and sleek symmetrical design give the new facility a modern metallic flair.
