Conceptualized by hospitality consultancy firm Duncan Miller Ullmann (DMU), the AC Hotel Dallas Frisco has a design scheme defined by European-style-meets-Southern-hospitality. A brand known for its “art-centric” approach, this Autograph Collection hotel is driven by classic, modern design, with clean lines and intricate details modeled after the European and Spanish roots of the locale.

While AC hotels are modern and minimalist by nature, metals play a significant role in the finishes that are specified. For the hotel’s bar area, in particular, the defining focal point is an integrated bottle rack and lighting installation, suspended above the bar. To create this dramatic centerpiece, DMU—in collaboration with MATTEC Interiors—looked to Banker Wire’s IPZ-25 in stainless steel and bronze, a wire mesh pattern that provides aesthetic dynamism in both color and form.

“When lit with proper lighting, we knew the Banker Wire material would really create a stand-out installation, adding unique detail to the bar area,” says Theresa Zavala, Studio Director, DMU. “We have an in-house lighting designer, so we are always working to ensure we capitalize on the lighting within the space to get the most out of the materials. The textural, multi-faceted quality of the Banker Wire mesh afforded us an opportunity to really wash the product with a lighting source to create this ‘play of light,’ especially in the evenings when the sun has gone down.”

Specified in the stainless steel and bronze finish, IPZ-25 is a simple, lightweight intercrimp wire mesh design that utilizes the strength of stainless steel to its advantage. Using different wire diameters for the warp and shute to achieve balanced stiffness in both directions, the intercrimp surface gives the material a high degree of reflective energy. Similarly, when mixing a copper-based alloy—bronze, in this instance—with the stainless warp wires, a beautiful contrast occurs; the variance in color, combined with the difference of diameter, makes the IPZ-25 the perfect choice for a lighting installation. For this application, the stainless steel and bronze complement the neutral colors found throughout the bar and lounge area, creating a warm, relaxed atmosphere.

“Banker Wire offers a unique aesthetic, depending on the perspective or positioning of the viewer—it looks textural from a distance, but as you get closer and move around the product, you really get a sense for the detail. Next to the polished metals, it offers a nice contrast of finishes,” adds Zavala.
