HISTORIC CHARLESTON HOTEL INTEGRATES STRIKING METAL AGAINST WARM WOOD

Renovation of Public Lounge Features Decorative Banker Wire Mesh in Bookcase Application

November 6, 2017

MUKWONAGO, WI—NOVEMBER 6, 2017— Banker Wire, a leading manufacturer of woven and welded wire mesh, has provided countless solutions for a variety of architectural and industrial applications for over a century. Undergoing a complete renovation, The Renaissance Charleston Historic District Hotel in South Carolina was no exception, as it needed a decorative mesh material that would integrate well with the new millwork. Interior design firm P3 Design Collective and architect //3877 turned to Banker Wire’s M44-7 pattern in order to create a shimmering effect within a public lounge space of the hotel.

The design of the hotel’s lounge was inspired by the history of Charleston, using colors and materials that were sophisticated yet casual. P3 Design Collective sought a decorative mesh material that would adorn the top of a diagonal bookcase feature and complement the dark wood finish. The mesh, which is attached to a wooden frame and integrated into the overall design of the millwork, creates a timeless accent, drawing out the beauty and warmth of wood with the coolness of stainless steel.

“We needed a creative solution to disguise the linear diffusers above the millwork that we were unable to relocate,” explained Paula Benesch, partner, P3 Design Collective. Additionally, the wire mesh conceals pre-existing lateral air vents while still allowing air to pass freely between the vents and room.

Thin yet highly durable, the Mid-Fill Square Weave M44-7 reflects light creating a shimmering effect for sunscreen or light diffusing interior and exterior applications. The weave, available in brass, bronze, plain steel or stainless steel, is a simple over-under pattern that uses four independent wires sharing the same crimp pocket. There are nearly unlimited design possibilities with the decorative wire mesh pattern M44-7, including multiple alloy choices and secondary finishes.

About Architectural Woven Wire Mesh
Pre-crimped woven wire mesh is constructed of individual wires that are crimped prior to being woven together on a loom. Pre-crimping the wires provides a much higher degree of control during the weaving process. This allows for far more intricate and interesting patterns, as well as unique customization, to meet the vision of the designer. Banker Wire has refined and innovated its crimping process more than any other manufacturer, delivering more than 8,000 different spacing, diameter, and crimp combinations, plus endless customization options.
