The St. Regis San Francisco’s signature fine dining restaurant, Astra, offers guests a luxury experience. Astra embodies extraordinary hospitality with modern-day sophistication and represents the epitome of northern California luxury expressed through local and cultural references.
Designed by London-based design firm Blacksheep, the project was multifaceted. The vision was to create an independent, art-focused destination that is colorful, lively, and whimsical, all while capturing the SoMa neighborhood spirit and exuding St. Regis luxury. The result is pure Californian luxury – a design that anchors itself in the San Francisco landscape using subtle abstractions, rich textures, and soft metallics.
Using Banker Wire’s SPZ-52 wire mesh in a plated satin brass finish, adds another sophisticated touch to the bar space, adding texture and golden hues to the backlit structure. Banker Wire’s SPZ-52 is a unique, dense rectangular architectural wire mesh pattern with crushed warp wires that offer an interesting pattern up close while appearing as a transparent metallic pattern when viewed from afar. Used within the bar shelving and back wall, Banker Wire’s mesh and the bar’s overhead trellis are a nod to the city’s iconic tram lines. This bold transformation draws a broad cross-section of guests, tourists, locals, and art lovers to a unique statement of St. Regis glamor.
