NEW YORK CITY OFFICE UTILIZES WIRE MESH FOR BOLD PANELING AND PARTITIONS

Banker Wire mesh features embossed technology on a small scale to create large-scale impression

MUKWONAGO, WI — December 8, 2017 — When Blackstone, one of the world’s leading investment firms, relocated its Innovations & Infrastructure (Bxii) team to a new space in Midtown Manhattan, the company sought to create a dynamic, flexible and agile environment that fosters a culture of collaboration and innovation. Following six months of surveys and focus groups, they discovered employees expressed a strong desire for collaboration along with quiet personal workspace, access to cutting-edge technology, and a relaxed, non-corporate design feel.

M Moser, an international architecture and design firm, translated this vision into a space that combines bold and raw materials with a refined aesthetic. A prominent industrial-inspired design element — used throughout the hallways, breakout areas and meeting spaces — was crafted from Banker Wire's S-12 architectural wire mesh, which CARVART then incorporated into their system to create decorative wall panels and partitions. For this particular application, the robust S-12 pattern is woven in plain steel with a blackened finish. Its metallic transparency allows just a touch of light to diffuse through the mesh.

“After reviewing Banker Wire’s S-12 material, we determined that it was rigid enough to use without the added support of glass,” said Ellie Goodlet, Sales & Design for CARVART, a leading architectural glass company. “We customized our hardware to accommodate the metal and added back support bars every three to four feet to prevent deflection in the metal and create extra support. Our frame matched the finish of mesh, creating a beautiful finished product.”

Blackstone’s vision for the Bxii team was to reposition the way it had been operating from a traditional “waterfall” method to an agile workforce, eliminating inefficient and siloed environments, said Bill Murphy, Senior Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer. The flexible mesh walls and partitions — paired with furniture chosen for its materiality and texture — play a key role in achieving this vision.

About Architectural Woven Wire Mesh
Pre-crimped woven wire mesh is constructed of individual wires that are crimped prior to being woven together on a loom. Pre-crimping the wires provides a much higher degree of control during the weaving process. This allows for far more intricate and interesting patterns, as well as unique customization, to meet the vision of the designer. Banker Wire has refined and innovated its crimping process more than any other manufacturer, delivering more than 8,000 different spacing, diameter, and crimp combinations, plus endless customization options. As a result, Banker can make any woven wire mesh pattern imaginable – manufactured to specify for any project type.
